Russian regions received the right to set electricity tariffs for the population, depending on the volume of consumption. About it it says in the published amendments to the government decree.

According to the document, the region, if desired, will independently determine the minimum volume of consumption that can be obtained at a reduced rate. Citizens who do not meet it will pay a higher price for electricity.

Edition “Kommersant” with reference to sources suggested that the volume of concessional consumption is likely to be higher than the previously discussed parameters.

The amendments are expected to help combat cryptocurrency miners illegally connecting to power grids in the residential sector.

Electricity tariffs for the population in the Russian Federation are regulated by the state, they are below the economically justified level. Additional costs are included in the tariff for industry, this is a cross-subsidization mechanism. According to the energy regulator Market Council, in 2021 this additional payment from business will reach 241 billion rubles.

Recall that in October, the authorities of the Irkutsk region announced an increase in electricity consumption in the region for household needs by 159% due to shadow miners. According to experts, this is not the limit.

Before the amendments were adopted, the regions had to seek recalculations through the courts.
