Search giant Baidu has unveiled Ernie Bot, a chatbot powered by artificial intelligence. Writes about it Reuters.
During presentations the company’s CEO Robin Li showed five videos. Here Ernie Bot answers questions about the popular Chinese science fiction novel The Three-Body Problem, performs mathematical calculations, understands Chinese dialects, and creates videos and images with text prompts.
“Today’s announcement is a natural continuation of the hard work we’ve put in over the years,” Li said.
Baidu plans to use Ernie Bot to revolutionize its search engine, which currently dominates China. The company is also using a tool to improve the efficiency of cloud computing, smart cars, home appliances, and other core businesses.

The company warned that the system has a number of problems.
“Of course, we cannot say that he is perfect. So why are we presenting it today? Because the market demands it,” said Baidu CEO Robin Li.
Ernie Bot is now available by invite. Companies can apply to embed the bot in their products through the Baidu cloud platform.
According to Li, 650 organizations have applied to join the Ernie ecosystem. Chinese state media and the Shaolin Temple were among the first to partner with the company.
In addition, Lee commented on the recent announcement of the GPT-4. According to him, the appearance of the model showed the degree of complexity of this kind of technology. The top manager was also “surprised” by the ability of the algorithm to generalize information.
At the same time, he warned against viewing chatbots through the prism of geopolitics.
“Ernie Bot is not a confrontation tool between China and the US,” Li said.
Ernie Bot’s limited presentation of pre-recorded videos fell short of market expectations. Immediately after the presentation, Baidu’s listed shares in Hong Kong fell 10%.
Recall that on March 14, OpenAI introduced a large multimodal GPT-4 model. On the same day, the company integrated the algorithm into the popular ChatGPT chatbot.
