The Italian company Azimut Group, which manages assets worth more than $87.2 billion, fell victim to the BlackCat ransomware group. The firm published public statement on this fact.
The incident took place on July 21st. According to ransomware.live, the hackers said they were able to steal “more than 500GB of data”, including supposedly complete customer financial information, company reports, stocks and antiques purchases. Threatening the company with a data leak, BlackCat demanded an undisclosed ransom amount.
However, Azimut Group rejected the ransomware’s demands. The company acknowledged the presence of “unauthorized access” to its systems, but assured that the personal and financial information of customers is safe and the attackers did not carry out any transactions.
Recall, according to a report by Chainalysis, in early 2022, bitcoin ransomware revenues decreased by 40% compared to the previous year, as many victims refused to pay the attackers.
