Alphabet plans to spin off Sandbox Technology’s quantum computing developers into a separate company. The corporation is incubating a secret startup as part of its Moonshot venture capital program, writes Business Insider.
According to the report, the new company will be headed by the current head of the division, Jack Hydari. He applied to create a new company, SB Technologies Inc., for which the sandboxquantum.com website has already been registered.
The creation of a Sandbox can facilitate fundraising and recruitment, as well as other operational benefits. The corporation did not comment on the formation of SB Technologies.
Alphabet and Google have been working on quantum technologies for many years, aiming to compete with Cambridge Quantum, various scientists, IBM and others for next generation computing.
For the first time, the existence of a secret Alphabet division became known in January 2020. Supposedly, it was founded by Google co-founder Sergey Brin.
Recall that in May 2021, IBM announced the acceleration of data processing by quantum computers by 120 times and introduced the Qiskit Runtime service.
That same month, Google announced plans at an I / O conference to build the first commercial quantum computer by 2029.
In June, IBM announced the opening of a quantum computing and artificial intelligence center in the UK.
