Study: AI market in China will reach $26.7 billion in 2026
In 2026, the AI market in China will exceed $26.7 billion, which will be about 8.9% of the expected global investment. This was reported by researchers at IDC.

According to analysts’ forecasts, hardware will remain the largest segment of the AI industry over the next five years, demonstrating an average annual growth rate of 16.5%. It will account for more than half of all investments, and in 2026 their size will reach $15 billion. About 80% of investments will go to the production of servers.
According to IDC, AI services will have a CAGR of 29.6% over the next five years. The segment’s revenue is expected to exceed $4 billion in 2026.
For the software market, analysts predict an average annual growth of 30.4%. In 2026, it will account for about 25% of all AI spending in China. Over 70% of software spending will come from AI platforms.
Amazon threatened with fines over anti-competitive algorithms
Amazon companies threatens a $1bn class action lawsuit for allegedly using Buy Box’s “secret algorithm” to force UK customers to pay more.
According to consumer advocate Julie Hunter, this section is more likely to offer products from the tech giant and those who use the company’s logistics. Offers that are better value for money or quality of service move down the page or are hidden in a “dark corner” on the site, she added.
Lawyer Lesley Hanna said that users rely heavily on the Buy Box — up to 90% of purchases are made through it. As a result, “millions” of buyers overpay. Also, this practice is likely to violate the requirements for competition, forcing sellers to make better deals.
The lawsuit applies to all UK residents who have made purchases since October 2016 and does not require their consent.
Amazon called the allegations “baseless”. The tech giant supports all users of the marketplace, and “more than half” of transactions in the country go through independent merchants, the company said.
Adobe introduces AI features for Photoshop and Lightroom
Adobe at MAX introduced several updates with artificial intelligence for photo-oriented services.
Lightroom 2022 received improvements to AI-based image editing features. Among them is the Select Objects tool, which can automatically refine the edges of the selection of objects, and Content Aware Remove to remove the required content from the photo.
The company also added the Select People feature to Lightroom, which allows you to edit individual people and groups, or their specific body parts, including areas of skin, eyes, teeth and hair.
photoshop received an update to the Object Selection tool, which has learned to recognize complex objects like the sky, water or buildings. When you press Shift+Delete, the function allows you to quickly select an item, delete it and fill the area with content.
The company also added a neurofilter to the editor to restore old photos. AI algorithms can independently recognize and fix scratches and other minor defects.
In addition, Adobe showed a number of tools created in the experimental laboratory.
Google showed an algorithm for creating a slow-mo video from two photos
Researchers at Google and the University of Washington submitted algorithm for FILM video frame interpolation.
The neural network synthesizes a high-quality smooth slow-motion video from several “almost identical” photos. The system includes a “scale-independent” feature extractor, a bi-directional motion estimator, and a fusion module.
The team trained FILM on triplets of video frames, where the middle picture serves as the starting point for observation.
To optimize the algorithm, the researchers used the Gram loss matrix. According to them, this improved the sharpness and realism of the images.
Waymo robot taxi launches in Los Angeles
Waymo Company plans launch a robot taxi in Los Angeles (USA).
Representatives of the company have already begun to collect cartographic information in the city using drone sensors. They said Los Angeles is a busy place and Waymo’s experience will make it “the best” to handle the complexity of driving on its roads.
Employees of the company will be the first to test the autonomous transportation program. The drones will then be tested by “trusted testers” who have signed a non-disclosure agreement.
Later, robot taxis without a safety driver at the wheel will be able to be used by customers for a fee.
There is no data on the timing of the launch of drones in Los Angeles.
Scientists have developed an AI buoy to protect whales
The Chilean authorities and the MERI Foundation launched a smart buoy to prevent ships from colliding with whales.
The technology uses oceanographic sensors and LIDO artificial intelligence software to determine the type and location of mammals. The buoy also checks the “state” of the ocean by analyzing oxygen levels, temperature and other criteria.
The device is located in Corcovado Bay and warns ships of blue, humpback, southern whales and sei whales swimming nearby. Later, the researchers plan to deploy six or more buoys, and in the future expand their number enough to cover the entire migration route of animals between Antarctica and the equator.
The project was implemented as part of the Blue Boat initiative aimed at protecting whales and tracking underwater ecosystems.
IKEA to test self-driving delivery in Texas
IKEA and Kodiak Robotics launched testing the delivery of goods by unmanned trucks in Texas (USA).
Robocar is equipped with the Kodiak autonomous driving system. The drone drives on its own, but with a security operator at the wheel.
Every day, a truck transports furniture from an IKEA distribution center near Houston (USA) to a retail store near Dallas, covering about 480 km.
FedEx closed the project of robo-couriers
FedEx Courier Service refused from building Roxo robots to delivering the last mile.
According to the company, the devices do not meet the requirements for their application in the near future. But FedEx added that Roxo’s experience has helped improve the understanding and use of robotics.
The company has tested devices in the US, UAE and Japan.
The artist accused the neural network of stealing his work
Twitter user stolen almost finished fan art, finished it with the help of a neural network and claimed the rights to the image.

Korean anime artist AT was drawing a character from the game Genshin Impact live on his Twitch channel. One viewer, tweeted as Musaishh, took a screenshot of the illustration and finished it with the Novel AI tool. He published the work on social networks, ahead of the real author by six hours.
When AT finished his art and showed it on Twitter, Musaishh demanded a link to the “original”.
Users of the platform and other artists criticized the behavior of the scammer, after which he deleted his account.
Robops from Boston Dynamics dance to BTS
Boston Dynamics has published a video with robots as members of the popular South Korean boy band BTS. The video was created for the Yet To Come concert in Busan.
In the video, Spot’s robots sing and dance instead of the musicians to the song Permission to Dance. A bipedal Atlas device also appears in several episodes.
