- Because of it, 2000 private keys were at risk
- One of the clients lost all bitcoins
- The company gave advice on how to protect your funds
The other day crypto platform Edge discovered security problem. One of the users complained that all bitcoins disappeared from his wallet. In this case, the client did not make any transactions.
The security service investigated and identified an exploit that leads to the leakage of private keys. Two types of users were at risk.
The first is who bought/sold bitcoins through Bity, Wyre, Bitrefill, Ionia, Xanpool, LibertyX, Bitaccess, Bits of Gold and Banxa. And the second group of vulnerable users are those who used the “Download Logs” feature in Edge.
The company found out that these risks concern 2000 private keys. This is a small number of the total number of platform clients (less than 0.01%). Nevertheless, programmers will conduct a thorough check. They need to see if the malware could have accessed the unencrypted private keys on the drive.
What to do for clients
The company gave an algorithm of actions for users who belong to the risk group. That is, those who bought crypto through these sites or downloaded Edge magazines.
The platform advises updating the application to the Edge version (v3.3.1). You also need to delete previous logs from disk, and ideally, generate a new wallet. You don’t need to create a new account.
